Nice looking but functional problems,
These are very nice looking bottles. But they have two problems.
The first is the threading for the caps. It is a very fine thread which makes it hard to align the caps... the first time my wife tried to put the cap back on it got cross-threaded and didn't sit properly. This probably won't be a problem if you are using the bottles while sitting, but makes it difficult to put the cap on when moving.
The second problem is that being made of aluminum, they are a bit delicate. It makes them very light, but also makes them very susceptible to dents. A bottle got dropped from a few feet off the ground our first time out on a trail and put a pretty sizable dent in the side. There was only a inch or so of water left in the bottle and it wasn't dropped from very high. If it were full of water the damage probably would have been even more.
To summarize, a very good looking and light bottle but not very rugged. Bottom line is they would make good bottles for the office or car but not in the outdoors. |

Great water bottle, cap a little annoying,
I have owned this bottle for a little over a week. I really like the look of it. My only complaint is that sometimes it is hard to get the cap to screw back on. If you don't have the exact angle, you may have to start over a couple of times. I've gotten used to what I need to do, but I considered returning it on the first day.

Great bottle,
I got the green grass one on clearance from a store a while back. I constantly get compliments on it (I use it at work). The bottle looks great and there is no weird taste from the metal. My only complaints are that it's kind of a pain to wash out (even in the dishwasher), and that the screw cap is kind of annoying (I just leave the cap off altogether for work). Great bottle for my use though!

Gaiam Aluminum Water Bottle,
I purchased three of these in two different colors -- the green Tree of Life and a beautiful royal blue. Two were gifts, so I don't know how they held up. Mine works just fine - no problem with the loop cap. I like that, and have had no problem reattaching the cap. The finish, however, is a bit of a problem. I somehow scratched it before I ever used it! Being aluminum, it is somewhat subject to dents, which I have also experienced. I bumped the bottle (in a carry bag) on the door on the way out -- big dent, and ugly -- marred the paint horribly.
As an alternative to plastic, I love the idea of reusable aluminum -- these are very attractive initially -- but not sturdy enough for me to reorder.

Poor cap and poor printing made for a bad experience,
I've owned the Gaiam Grass Water Bottle for a month now. The sport top is absolutely terrible at dispensing water. The top mixes in a large amount of air while dispensing the water and provides you with a little amount of water for the effort. On top of that, I have washed the cap several times and it still has a plastic, powdery taste/smell that makes the water taste less than pure.
Second, the grass screen print is poorly made. The picture on the bottle is extremely pixelated, so much so you can make out out unevenness of the color several feet away.
The bottle says it should be hand washed and it means it. I have ran this bottle through my dishwasher twice and a small part of the print is already wearing away.
I would absolutely recommend against this bottle. I own other bottles with screw-off tops and I am much happier with them.
